Adapting Behavioral Health Treatment During a Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has dominated most of 2020. At the same time, we’ve had to keep up with our mental health and addiction treatment. Many people are struggling with their mental health and substance use during this time, among many other things. The behavioral health industry has also been impacted, and everyone involved has been forced to adapt during COVID-19. Villa Tranquil Recovery is here to help make that adaptation a bit smoother.

Who Is Having the Most Trouble?

While no one is immune to behavioral health struggles, a few groups have suffered more than others. “Younger adults, racial or ethical minorities, essential workers, and unpaid adult caregivers reported having experienced disproportionately worse mental health outcomes, increased substance use, and elevated suicidal ideation,” reports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They also note that other stressors that could create adverse behavioral health reactions include social isolation, absence of school structure, unemployment, and other financial worries, and various forms of violence.

How Can We Help?

By identifying the groups that may be at an increased risk of behavioral health issues during this time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that behavioral health treatment can be adapted to help treat the at-risk community’s conditions. Furthermore, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that “Community-level intervention and prevention efforts should include strengthening economic supports to reduce financial strain, addressing stress from experienced racial discrimination, promoting social connectedness, and supporting persons at risk for suicide.” The sooner we can catch a potential trigger to someone’s well-being, the sooner we can implement behavioral health intervention that can hopefully prevent further behavioral health decline.
