Counting Down To Healthy Living

Everyone has a routine, even if they’re unaware of it. What’s the first thing you do when your eyes pop open in the morning? Do you reach for your phone, stretch, or jump up to have a glass of water? Whatever you do, this has become a routine. You probably do the same thing every day. Here’s the thing: Not all habits are healthy. You probably shouldn’t grab your phone first thing in the morning, but you probably do anyways. Healthy habits are harder to establish than unhealthy ones. Your routines can either keep you on track or on the wrong path. Geneva Vanderziel, the editor of Collective Gen, says that “routine is strangely satisfying.” Healthy routines have endless benefits. 9 thousand steps

Keeping active is an integral part of daily life. Many of us work at desks all day and do not get up and out of our chairs. Daily, you should be moving around while you’re taking breaks from work. Exactly 9,000 steps a day isn’t a hard-set number, but making sure you’re moving is an important thing to focus on every day. 

8 hours of sleep

Sleep is important, but restful sleep is essential. Just because you’re sleeping doesn’t mean you’re sleeping well. Try to make sure you sleep soundly throughout the night, without waking up. If you’re tossing and turning, your sleep probably isn’t restful. 

7 glasses of water

You have to focus on drinking enough water to keep you hydrated, especially if you drink a lot of coffee or soda to get you through the day. Find a number that works for you. Medical professionals recommend approximately half your body weight in ounces. 

6 minutes of meditation

Calming your mind and body with mediation is a great way to build healthy routines. You don’t have to take yoga classes to practice meditation. You can practice it while taking a break from work or school, or during your daily session of exercise. 

5 servings of fruits and veggies

Eating well with plenty of fruits and vegetables is a necessity. This helps keep you healthy and fuel your brain for the day. 

4 mental or stretching breaks

If you’re at work or school throughout the day, you’re going to need to take breaks throughout the day. No one can be expected to work throughout the day without interruption. You can take a walk around your building to relax your mind and body.

3 meals and healthy snacks

Make sure you eat three meals a day. You should also include small snacks in between your meals. With three well-rounded meals and nutritious snacks, you should have no problem meeting nutritional goals!

2 hours of no phone before bed

It helps if you put down electronics before bed to get restful sleep. You can pick up a book or practice some meditation before bed to get you in the mode for rest.

1 session of exercise

Exercise is essential. Try to exercise for 30 minutes every day. This helps keep you healthy and happy long-term.
