How You Talk To Yourself Matters

How you talk to yourself matters. Negative self-talk can ruin your whole mindset for the day. Your mental health is dependent on the words you feed your brain. The way you frame your thoughts can impact your mood and decisions. Just think: Would you talk to your 8-year-old self the way you’re talking to yourself now? Would you talk to your grandma the way you’re talking to yourself now? If the answer is no, you probably shouldn’t be talking to yourself in that way either. If the answer was no, you need to work on reframing how you speak to yourself. Treat yourself with respect and know that your thoughts matter. Begin to take control of them. Villa Tranquil Recovery can help with that. We are going to give yourself some examples on how to reframe your thoughts and talk to yourself more positively.

“I’m such a mess.”

You’re only human, and humans aren’t perfect. This doesn’t mean you are a mess. If you’re thinking that you’re a mess, try telling yourself that you are doing the best that you can. It’s okay to make mistakes. Nothing and no one is perfect, no matter how hard they try to make it seem like so. You’ll be okay.

“I’m a failure.”

Struggling with something does not mean you are a failure. Try to find one positive aspect of your situation. Instead of telling yourself that you’re failing, try to say to yourself that you are learning. Figure out what you are learning and remind yourself that you’re doing your best. It’s going to be okay.

“Why is this happening to me?”

Try not to play the victim in this situation. Everyone has tough times. You’ll make it out on the other side. Try to figure out what the problematic event is teaching you. There’s always something you can take from a situation.

“I can’t do this.”

You can do it. You’re getting through it right now. You’re fighting hard, and that’s a great thing. It might be hard, but remind yourself that you’ve done hard things in the past. You can get through this hard thing, too. You’ve got this.

Villa Tranquil Recovery can help you get through your tough times and negative thoughts. Call us now at 214-799-3080 for more information about the programs we offer. We can’t wait to hear from you today!
