Taking a Break

Life can be extremely overwhelming. From school to work to family life, things build upon each other and can feel insurmountable. We tend to run ourselves so thin trying to cover all of our bases. We may try to meet all of the expectations put on us because we are, at our core, people-pleasers. We must, however, know when enough is enough. We must be able to put our foot down and get what we need. We must learn to take a break.

Stress is an increasing occurrence among college students. They deal with a new situation and many are working for the first time, while trying to balance a heavy school load and social life. Some even are student-athletes, which brings on a whole set of new challenges. If you are a college student that is struggling with your mental health, Villa Tranquil Recovery can help. Mental Health Treatment on Campus

The number of students requesting mental health services in colleges and universities across the country is growing. Katie Reilly, author of “Depression on campus” for TIME Magazine, reports that:

When Do Problems Arise?

Reilly says that problems come about near the middle of the semester because this is when the “honeymoon period” of the new year fades and midterms are coming up. One very large problem is that there are not enough counselors for students. The list requesting services grows longer and longer, leaving many people in danger.

These limited resources are very limited. Reports say that there is “one professional counselor for every 1,737 students—fewer than the minimum of one for every 1,000 to 1,500 students recommended by the International Association of Counseling Services.”

Taking a Break

Many schools are worried about students dropping out because of burnout. This is understandable. But, students need to feel well in order to do well in school. One suggestion for students feeling burnt out is to take a semester off to tend to their mental health. As a student, you are allowed to take a break. There is no shame in taking a break to care for your mental health. It’s one of the strongest things you can do.

If you are thinking of taking a break to help your mental health, Villa Tranquil Recovery can help. We have programs that can benefit you during your break. Call us today at 214-799-3080. We can’t wait to hear from you!
