The 7 Steps To Acceptance

Acceptance can be a difficult thing. It’s important, however, because it is the first step to moving toward recovery. There are seven steps that you must go through to reach acceptance. You may get stuck on one of these steps, or maybe a few will trip you up. Whatever it may be, you can trust that Villa Tranquil Recovery is going to get you through the steps and into recovery. Read more about the cycle to acceptance below.

  • Normal existence

This is the stage you are probably currently in. You aren’t aware of an issue — maybe until now when you are reading this article. In this stage, you are acting as normal as can be. Your emotions are not on high alert and you are making the same decisions that you normally would. This would be considered “normal.”

  • Realizing you need help

Now that you’re reading this, there may be that little voice in the back of your head that says you need help. It probably feels like something is wrong with you. We can assure you that nothing is wrong with you. You may have veered off track a bit, but you can get back on the road to recovery. You probably were not ready to realize that you need help, so you go to the next step…

  • Denial

You probably don’t want to face the fact that you need help. You probably can’t believe that this is happening to you. You probably have a lot of questions. This is all okay. Try to realize the denial you’re in and remove as much of it as possible. You deserve help. Allow yourself to get that help.

  • Anger

This step can occur once the denial has faded away and you realize you may need help. The anger may be rooted in shame. You probably don’t want to hear from anyone else that you need help, either. Try not to verbally (or physically) attack those around you for trying to help. Just like you, they’re doing the best that they can.

  • Depression

The stage of depression came come with coming to terms that you need help. It’s true — you probably do need help. However, there’s nothing to ashamed of. Asking for help is so brave. Reach out. You deserve it.

  • Bargaining

This stage can be a long one. Try not to get stuck bargaining with yourself or others. The haze of denial, anger, and depression is fading. Allow it to fade away. This is the next step toward…
