To Be Human Is to Be Flawed

News flash: no one is perfect! The truth of the matter is that to be human is to be flawed. Pretending that you can be perfect is putting unnecessary stress on yourself. You’re not alone in feeling like you have to be perfect. It is humanly impossible to be perfect, though!

Villa Tranquil Recovery is here to remind you that you don’t have to overthink everything, dissecting your every move. You’re human and you’re bound to make mistakes. If you’re struggling with trying to be perfect in your recovery, you’re in the right place! Continue reading for more information.

Our Survival Instinct

One of our first survival instincts, says Cheryl Rickman, a psychologist who spoke to In The Moment magazine, “wants us to do well and have others see us doing well.” Thus, she says, “our tendency to give ourselves a hard time when we get things wrong is natural.”

However, when someone around us is struggling, we often allow themselves the grace that we do not give ourselves. Today, though, we are not constantly having to worry about survival. We aren’t running for our lives so there isn’t as much need for us to be so hard on ourselves. That doesn’t stop us, however, from demanding perfection.

Recovery Isn’t Perfect, Though

You cannot possibly go through your recovery without making a mistake. It just isn’t possible. You’re going to mess up. You’re going to feel triggered and want to give in. It’s how you act and react in those tough moments that are important. You might even give in once or twice. But, how you deal with the relapse is what matters. It isn’t how you fall down; it’s how you get back up.

Get Back Up

If you find yourself in the middle of a relapse, you’re going to have to work hard to get back up. You might need therapy or even inpatient treatment. That is what Villa Tranquil Recovery is here for. Forgiveness is also a part of getting back up. You have to give yourself the love and acceptance you deserve. Try not to dwell on the negatives, but instead focus on the positives. It’s how you deal with a tough situation, not the tough situation itself.

Villa Tranquil Recovery is here to help you through your relapses and other difficult moments. We offer programs that can be beneficial to you. Call us today at (866) 697-7573. We can’t wait to speak with you!
